Thank you for adding these photos and thank your family for making the effort to save the memorial stone.

I recently visited the Buffington Island area and visited many local cemetery. It is sad to see so many tombstones falling apart and becoming unreadable.

I am also a descendant of Joel Buffington through his daughter Magdalena Buffington who married Thomas Dewitt.

I have evidence that Joel died in 1821 rather than 1834.

Estate Inventory of Joel Buffington, dec'd.
Joseph Buffington was the administrator and
it was witnessed by James Daugherty,
Lawrence Land and George Swope.

If he did die in 1821, then 77 years earlier
would be 1744.

Thanks for the information. I don't have Joel in my book I'm referring to at all and I believe my only information was from Volney Smith. I'll have to investigate further just to make sure everything is correct and then I'll change the dates. Certainly looks that way from your link though! Thanks for the link as well, lots of additional information there.
